Examining Teacher’s Blogs- Shannon Wilson
What I found the most interesting about different teacher’s blogs is that they are as different as the teachers themselves. Some have lots of pictures, others do not. Some have posted art work by their student’s, some have lots of links to other sites, and some have the class schedule, while others may take a completely different view altogether. I must admit that doing this in my own classroom seems daunting right now. I think it would be a really cool idea and a great way for parents to see what is going on. I struggle with the idea of how many parents will actually visit the site though. Is this just another thing for me to do with no intrinsic value? Or does the idea of a class blog serve a greater purpose?
I think that the students would benefit from seeing their work online. They could access their poems, artwork, assignments, and feedback form anywhere. This could be good if they wanted to share with distant relatives, if they were absent, or if they wanted to see what others in their class were doing.
I liked the colorfulness of the blogs that I looked at. The pictures of the kids were my favorite things on there. If I had a classroom blog, I would have lots of pictures of my students on there. I really like the work samples too. I liked how in one blog, each student was listed and their assignments were underneath their name. This provides easy access to the parents to find their own kid and look at their stuff.
While the idea of classroom blogs is new to me, I am for it and hope to use it in my classroom. Shannon Wilson
